How is woman like a wave?
Woman* like a wave stemmed from our own learning about the menstrual cycle and the power that came from honoring, rather than fighting it. We began to dream of a world where more people were educated, honest, and in-tune with the waves of the womb, and the waves of every body.
Beginning in September 2024, over the course of 1 year, we will be guiding a group of 50 participants through somatic research and cycle tracking. Our practice engages with questions like:
How do you honor the rhythmic waves of your cycle?
How has your menstrual cycle affected your relationship to gender?
What do you know about waves, tides, and the way the moon affects them?
Do you feel the people in your life honor your waves?
In addition to personal learning, we are facilitating monthly workshops led by herbalists and healers who hold wisdom about the cycle, such as Elaine Sheff, Clinical Herbalist, RH (AHG), mikaela de la myco, Safi, and Dr. Sydney Freggiaro ND.
This project will use a process of devising, meaning the project will reveal itself to us throughout the process, and will be created through collective discovery and each participant's individual contributions.
Though much is still unknown, we imagine the outcome of this research will be a video/performance series that is both lyrical and educational.
* We use the word woman in the title of this project intentionally and expansively. We welcome all bodies, ages, experiences and identities to join us in this learning, but we will center those who bleed. Rather than seeing the word woman through the lens of the gender binary, we continue to honor woman as paradox, portal, creator and destroyer – the indigenous perspective of the woman in us all.
